What are the benefits of using this exfoliating mitt?

• Our Gentle, Medium, and Deep Premium Exfoliating Mitts deeply exfoliate to unclog pores, improve product absorption, prep and remove spray tans, prevent ingrown hairs, and increase circulation for incredibly soft skin! They’re a great remedy for keratosis pilaris (also known as “strawberry skin”). If you’ve never properly exfoliated, you will wonder where these mitts have been your whole life and won’t want to go another day without them!

What is it made of?

• Our mitts are made from a unique plant fiber called viscose – perfect for deep exfoliation while remaining gentle enough for buffing and smoothing. The texture of the fabric will amplify when wet, allowing it to effectively grip dead skin!

Is it nontoxic?

• Yes! All Seraphic Skincare products have been tested and verified to be REACH and CA Prop 65 compliant.

Is it vegan-friendly?

• Yes! All Seraphic Skincare products are made of 100% vegan materials, never tested on animals, and individually registered with The Vegan Society.

How is it different from the Original Premium Exfoliating Mitt?

• They are all made from the same type of viscose fabric. However, the texture and intensity of exfoliation can vary depending on how tightly the fabric is woven. Our Gentle, Medium, and Deep mitts are each woven differently to achieve tailored exfoliation results.

Which one is right for me?

• We recommend starting with the Gentle mitt and moving up on the intensity based on your skin’s tolerance as well as exfoliation needs. The Gentle mitt may be more suitable for mature or sensitive skin, while the Medium and Deep mitts may be a better approach to keratosis pilaris, or larger areas of the body such as the upper arms and thighs.

How often should I use it?

• For deep exfoliation (on well-softened skin with no cleansers, oils, or products), we recommend a usage of 1–4 times per month. For lighter exfoliating (used gently with cleanser), the mitt can be used more frequently. Because everyone’s skin is different, the level of exfoliation is customizable to fit your individual needs based on how intensely and frequently you use the mitt. You should test a patch of your skin for irritation prior to initial use to determine your level of sensitivity, but you should never exfoliate over cuts, burns, sunburns, or infected, irritated, or otherwise compromised skin.

Why does it turn water dark on first use?

• Our textile exfoliators are made in small batches with premium viscose fabric. Viscose is the unique fabric that makes the mitt so effective for exfoliating. During manufacture, it is dyed with a nontoxic, vegan-friendly black dye that can sometimes “bleed” the first time it gets wet, not unlike washing a brand new dark-colored clothing article. Please be assured, however, that this does not mean the product is damaged or unusable – after hand-washing the first time, any excess dye will be gone.

How do I keep it clean?

• Simply hand-wash the mitt and hang-dry to extend its lifespan. Keep in a place where it can dry between uses. Do not wash or dry in a washing machine or dryer and replace after approximately 3 months of use.

How long will it last?

• All of our exfoliating fabric products are reusable so you can get great results over and over again! We recommend replacing them approximately every 3 months.

Should I use any products with it?

• Some people prefer to use the mitt with a cleanser for lighter exfoliation, but for deep exfoliation, we generally discourage the use of any products as they can prevent the mitt’s fabric from gripping dead skin effectively.

Can I dry-exfoliate with it?

• Yes! The mitt can be used as a “dry brush.” On dry skin, use gentle, sweeping motions toward the heart to lightly exfoliate dead surface skin, stimulate blood flow, and encourage lymphatic drainage.

Why does it shrink?

• Our exfoliating fabric is intended to slightly shrink when wet! The mitt remains stretchy for an uncompromised fit while allowing a contour to form around your hand, providing control and helping you target specific areas of your body.

How long do I need to soak for?

• We recommend soaking for at least 15 minutes prior to exfoliating (e.g. after a longer shower, bath, or spa session). Your skin should be softened for the mitt to easily and effectively buff away the dead layers. Unsoftened skin won’t exfoliate as well and sensitivity may increase. We do not recommend exfoliating over unsoftened skin, as irritation or sensitivity is likely to occur.

Can it be used on my face?

• The texture of this mitt is specifically intended for the body and should not be used on the face. We do, however, offer an amazing facial mitt designed with an optimized texture for more delicate areas, including the face, neck, and chest.

How are these different from other exfoliators?

• Unlike loofahs, washcloths, or scrubs, the fabric texture of our exfoliating mitt becomes amplified when wet and maintains its effectiveness at lifting away any softened dead skin it comes in contact with.

Why don’t I see skin rolling off?

• Everyone’s skin is different – from age, diet, and genetic factors to the rate at which individuals regenerate cells and naturally shed dead skin, all the way down to how frequently exfoliating products were used prior to ours. More frequent use of the mitt will likely result in less visible dead skin, but as long as your skin feels softer than it was before, you can rest assured that you had a great treatment!   

Can I use this even if I have sensitive skin?

• Though the mitt can be customized to suit individual needs based on duration of exfoliation as well as pressure applied, we recommend people with very sensitive skin to avoid using this exfoliator. You should test a patch of your skin for irritation prior to initial use to determine your level of sensitivity. A small area of the body may be tested for sensitivity. For thinner areas, such as the neck and chest, apply the mitt slowly and gently. You should never exfoliate over cuts, burns, sunburns, or infected, irritated, or otherwise compromised skin. Avoid contact with sunburned, irritated, open, infected, or otherwise compromised skin.

Should I use it before or after shaving/waxing?

• Our exfoliating mitt is perfect for keeping ingrown hairs at bay and maintaining soft, smooth skin between hair removal treatments. However, shaving, waxing, and sugaring can irritate or even remove some layers of skin, causing over-exfoliation when combined. For that reason, we recommend exfoliating no sooner than a week before and after hair removal treatments (including shaving). The mitt may be used lightly every few days to prevent ingrown hairs, but deep exfoliation is not needed on areas of the body you frequently treat for hair removal.

Can it be used for spray-tan prep/removal?

• Absolutely! A good exfoliating treatment the day before a spray-tan will not only help the solution apply more evenly, but also extend its lifespan because it will be coating fresh skin rather than a patchy layer of dead skin. If overapplied on knees or elbows, try using the mitt gently in the shower to lighten dark areas and create a more even appearance. At the end of the spray-tan’s lifespan, our mitt will help buff away any spotty areas, leaving you fresh and ready for a new application!

Can I use this while taking skin medications?

• Do not use our exfoliating mitt while taking skin-thinning or skin-sensitizing medications, whether oral or topical. Consult your doctor before using any exfoliating product.

Can it be used on children?

• We do not recommend using any of our exfoliating products on small children as their skin is more sensitive and already naturally exfoliates faster than adults. For older children and teens with bumpy arms (keratosis pilaris), the mitt may be used lightly, but please remember that each body is different, and our exfoliating products may not be suitable for older children and teens. Always test a small area for sensitivity first.
